The Guide Dog
It dates from the 1870s when it was called The Valley and the landlord was George Orman. For over a hundred years it consisted of two small bars until it was converted into a single bar with inside toilets in the 1980s.The last landlady of the old style pub was Margot Beckett who raised a lot of money for Guide Dogs for the Blind. When Alan and Leah moved there from The Bevois Castle in 1983, they renamed the pub in honour of the former landlady. Recently part of the downstairs kitchen has been converted into a back room named, appropriately, the Dog House.
